(Great Pictures are at the end of the post.)While on vacation we left our innocent little kitten with some friends. While we were gone, our friends were visited by a coyote! The coyote showed up a couple of times. Well, out of their love for an outdoor tom cat they brought him in the house. This is not an issue....or it should not have been an issue. However, as I said earlier; "Sassy has always been ahead of other kittens." With that said, Sassy surprised us all...she went into heat. Seriously! At only approximately 4 1/2 months or so. Well the big tom cat, being what big tom cats are, found her interesting. When our friends realized this might be an issue, they separated the big cat and Sassy. Which makes sense as he has...well, let us just say, he has "been around the block a few times" in his life.
They separated them thinking that the only danger would be if the big tom cat got a hold of little innocent Sassy. They stuck him in the garage, as they knew that he doesn't know how to use the "cat" door. So with the two of them separated, our friends ventured out for an evening of good times and a movie.
After the movie, they came home and to their surprise Sassy was no where to be found. They searched high and low, but no Sassy. After a while they looked in the garage...and SURE ENOUGH! Sassy had decided that it was "time." That big tom cat had no where to run! He was "locked" in as he didn't understand the concept of a "cat door." Shame on Sassy! She trapped this big tom cat in the garage and well... Sassy is no longer an "innocent kitten."
Our friends, as loving as they are separated them and called us that night. We were driving up from Key West around one in the morning when the phone rang. When Jannene said who was calling, a thought popped in my head; "Sassy is pregnant."
We figured she was way too young to become pregnant and she might not even be able to have any kittens. The physical toll on her body at that young age might be more than she can handle. Upon returning home we took her to the vet. They told us that most likely she was only "practicing" and that there was nothing to worry about, but the only sure thing to do was a complete
ovarian hysterectomy. This would ensure that there isn't a chance for her to become pregnant. If she became pregnant from her one night stand it might be unhealthy/dangerous for her. And if she did get pregnant she might need to deliver via a "C" section.
Well, after hearing all of that and the vet saying that she is most likely not pregnant due to her age and body still developing and how fast we got her in to see them (under 48 hrs). The best thing to do was not to risk her health and safety and to ensure that next time she traps a big tom cat, she will not be able to get pregnant. We went ahead and had the surgery done.
She is now totally fixed. The doctors said to leave the "cone" on for 10-14 days. Sassy took it off in less than 24 hrs. We watched her carefully and she has surprised us. She completely leaves the incision area alone. She takes her pain killers without much of a fight and she only eats and drinks in small quantities.

It's like she she understood every word the doctor told us. It has only been about 48 hrs since the operation. She sleeps a lot, is eating more regularly now and she is starting to play more and more. I imagine a full recovery before the week is out.

We love our friends and look forward to bringing Sassy over again. Oh, a little update...sadly I heard the big tom cat was going in to the vet. Guess his "around the block" days are over. He's a great cat. =) And they are even better friends! We'll have to bring Sassy over for another play date soon.
She looks a little skinny after the Surgery. She is eating more and more, so the weight should return soon.
