Leading up to the birth, we had an appointment with our nurse at 5pm on Friday (just the day before). We were told that Jannene is 2 centimeters dilated and that the baby could come any time, however he probably would be a week late. She told us that there is no way for her to know for sure.
After the appointment, we went to dinner and ran a few more errands before we headed over to Tom and Sunny's. We were there until around midnight. Upon arriving at home, Jannene and Johnathan headed to bed. With Jannene heading to bed about thirty minutes before her "Mutant" husband. As Jannene headed upstairs, she called over her shoulder, "Come to bed soon, Mutant." Jannene has come to the conclusion that Johnathan MUST be a mutant, due to his lack of the need for much sleep. When Johnathan finally came to bed it was well after midnight, probably close to one am.
Around three am, Jannene got out of bed, calling her husband's name! "Husband! I think my water broke!" "Really? No. Are you sure?" "Well, I think so. Yeah. Yeah! Well...yes!" We called Labor and Delivery, just to check and see what they had to say. They told us to come on in, and they will admit us. The thought of being "admitted" this early, wasn't very appealing to Jannene. We called Nicole, our doula. Jannene and her talked for a while and decided to remain at home for a while. Jannene labored at home for over four hours before she was finally ready to head in to Kaiser. Between contractions Jannene did her makeup
We left for the hospital around 7:20 that morning. Upon checking in, they wanted to monitor Connor's heart, to see if he was doing okay and how strong his heart was. Well, Connor must not have gotten the memo, as he went to sleep! We sat there for over an hour and a half, just waiting for Connor to wake up. They wanted to get a reading on his heart beat while he was awake. When the midwife finally checked, she said that Jannene was dilated to five centimeters. They took us to the labor and delivery room from there. Soon, she was up to 7cms! Jannene is a Trooper! She went 7cms with no potossum (sp) or epidural, even though "Nurse Ratchet" was trying her best to convince Jannene that she needed it! Luckily, and THANKFULLY the Midwife that Kaiser provided us was (and is) a firm believer of mommas being able to birth their way, so long as the baby and momma are healthy. "Nurse Ratchet" was kicked to the curb (we don't know what happened with her, we just didn't see her anymore). God truly blessed us on Connor's birthday!
To start off, the Midwife followed our birth plan to a "T!" At seven centimeters Jannene received some pain medication to help take the edge off of the contractions. When she reached 8 cms, the midwife suggested the epidural as Jannene wasn't progressing very much. Jannene asked if there was anything else that she could do, as she was tired of laboring and desiring to push Connor into the world. She looked at Jannene and said, okay, I'll give this a try. Turn over on your side and on the next contraction I want you to push! When Jannene rolled over the pressure increased, she grimaced in pain! Before Jannene turned over, Connor was at -1. After she turned over and had one or two contractions Connor quickly moved down to +1. What that means is that Connor moved down the birth canal two positions! With Johnathan on Jannene's left leg and the Nicole on her right, the two of them provided counter pressure each time that Jannene pushed through a contraction. The entire time that Jannene was pushing, Johnathan was physically helping her to bring Connor into the world! Finally when Connor started coming, Johnathan and Nicole bore down and supported Jannene both physically and emotionally! When Connor's head came out, two nurses took over on the legs, as it was TIME! Everyone told Jannene to "PUSH!" Even though there wasn't a contraction, Jannene knew she had to PUSH, just by the urgency of everyone in the room!
From Johanthan! Holy COW! My wife is incredible! She is...wow! Unbelieveable! Thank you Jannene for loving me, loving our baby and for bringing him into the world! I love you!
We've said it before and we will say it again, THANK YOU Everyone! Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for us and for Connor! We appreciate ALL the support that has come from families and friends close and far away! Thank you for the help that we've had with the nursery, the wonderful gifts, the visitors in the hospital, phone calls, facebook messages, etc... We are so touched and blessed to have such wonderful friends and FAMILY! Thank you all!

We are so proud of both of you Johnathan and Jannene as well as Connor. We want to be there now so much! Thank you so much for the pictures. If it was up to Grandpa and Grandma Swart we would be there now, but the doctors don't want us to go very far away from the hospital right now so we are waiting impatiently for our chance to spoil our grandson. So remember everyone---don't spoil him too much! We love you all and hope to see you soon. Our family is so blessed and we are so thankful that we are an eternal family.
